Partho Sarathy ist ein Meister der Sarod und bringt die Tiefe und Schönheit der nordindischen Klassik mit einer seltenen Intensität auf die Bühne. Ausgebildet von seinem Vater Ustad Dhyanesh Khan und dem legendären Pandit Ravi Shankar, vereint seine Musik Ruhe, Tiefe und Ausdruckskraft. Weltweit gefeiert, zählt er heute zu den bedeutendsten Musikern Indiens.
Sein Spiel auf der Sarod ist wie eine Symphonie in Stille – tief, meditativ und zugleich kraftvoll. In seinen Raga-Interpretationen erkundet er musikalische Landschaften, die voller Harmonie und Klarheit sind. Seine Virtuosität ist dabei nie Selbstzweck, sondern Ausdruck einer ernsthaften, spirituellen Auseinandersetzung mit der Musiktradition.
Partho wurde 1960 in Kalkutta geboren – in eine Familie von Khyal-Musikern. Mit nur 16 Jahren gewann er den landesweiten Wettbewerb für Instrumentalmusik des indischen Rundfunks (All India Radio) – ein Meilenstein, der ihm den Weg zu Pandit Ravi Shankar ebnete. Seit seinem 18. Lebensjahr ist er dessen Schüler und musikalischer Weggefährte. Gemeinsam tourten sie durch Indien, Europa und die USA.
