What to make of singer-songwriter Jim E. Brown? In his bandcamp profile he describes himself as a 19-year-old “born in Manchester on September 10, 2001, just one day before the 911…He is an alcoholic and has several degenerative conditions.” If the math on his age raises an eyebrow, there are also rumors he may actually be a 40-year-old guy from Philadelphia (he certainly tours the US a lot in an age of constant visa issues) but if it’s all an act he doesn’t seem to break character, from his over-the-top depressive songs to the videos and food reviews on his YouTube channel.
He’s also built up a cult following over the last three years, with prolific output of singles, EPs and albums, including 2024’s The Sky is Ugly and 2025’s I Urinated on a Butterfly. Songs include “Every Time I Speak I Regret It Immensely,” “I Dreamed That You Liked My Instagram Post,” “I’m Quitting Prozac to Continue Drinking,” “Steve Albini’s Nasty Tweet,” and “I Am Happiest When I’m Unconscious.” Watch a few videos below.
