Research & Development

Innovation needs research. In Mannheim, research and industry go hand in hand. 2.25 percent of employees work in research and development. Several universities and more than 30 non-university research institutions are working on the future here in Mannheim. This results in over 2,000 patent applications per year in the region.
Mannheim operates a broad-based cluster policy which gives a boost to technologies of the future. The aim is to form close links between science and industry in the fields of medical technology, energy & environment, transportation and production technology. The Office for Economic Development is centrally committed to creating the best possible conditions, for example by encouraging more companies along the respective value chains to settle in the area by providing an innovation-friendly environment.
