Born on 13 February 1952 in Sulz am Neckar; Protestant; divorced; father of four children. Primary school in Eutingen im Gäu; Abitur (higher education entrance qualification) in Nagold; studied law and eco-nomics at Tübingen University. Following his second state examination in law in 1979/80, he became a civil servant in the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Until 2009, he worked as an attorney in Nagold. Since being appointed as Parliamentary State Secretary, he has not been working actively as a lawyer.
