The City of Mannheim compiles a large number of own statistics to provide numerically well-founded knowledge for municipal planning and decisions.

The range of topics of municipal statistics is broad. Automated administrative registers, data received from other authorities and own data surveys are the primary data sources.

A special feature of municipal statistics is the possibility to make statistical statements in small-scale classification (urban areas, districts, statistical districts) as well as for further geographical classifications (school districts, constituencies etc.). Hence, municipal statistics are often of particularly high importance for municipal planning and the interested public.

For data protection reasons these data may only be stored, prepared, evaluated and published under particular conditions. Further details are given in the Federal Data Protection Act, the Federal Statistics Act as well as the State Statistics Act of Baden Württemberg.
