Die Broschüre Stadterneuerungsbericht 2004 soll dazu beitragen, die Stadterneuerung - und damit eng verbunden die Städtebauförderung - als wichtige kommunale Aufgabe transparent zu machen und die Bedeutung für die Entwicklung Mannheims darzustellen.
Dabei spielen die neuen Handlungsansätze der „Sozialen Stadt“ eine ebenso wichtige Rolle wie die Maßnahmen zum 400-jährigen Stadtjubiläum im Jahr 2007 oder Projekte wie „Mannheim 21“, einer der bedeutendsten Maßnahmen in den nächsten 10 bis 15 Jahren.
The multifaceted City of Mannheim is the centre of economic, ecological, cultural and social processes. Continuously changing demands on the city and new functions require corresponding reactions in the urban development field. The urban renewal and associated urban development promotion programme have proven to be a flexible and sustainable urban development instrument for the stabilisation and development of an area through several coordinated individual measures.
The main emphasis is on the targeted control of structural investments such as the modernisation of flats, the creation of public facilities, the construction and redesign of streets and places which are supplemented by active community work or quarter management, if necessary.
It would be impossible to realise urban renewal measures without the financial aid of Federal and Laender Governments as well as sometimes the EU. Just like other municipalities in Baden-Württemberg, Mannheim is getting financial aid from the urban development promotion programmes.
