Location
In the Rhine-Neckar triangle, one of the largest areas of
industry in the Federal Republic. Second largest city in
Baden-Württemberg with 325,349 inhabitants (as of 31.12.04),located
where three Federal States converge: Rheinland Pfalz, Hessen and
Baden-Württemberg. 70 km south of Frankfurt, 140 km northwest of
Stuttgart.
History
766 Documented for the first time in the Lorsch Monastery Codex

services daily. Second largest rail freight depot in the Federal
Republic handling 5 million goods trucks annually. Riverport
handling 7,6 million tons, annually (2004) with RoRo-facility and
container terminal.First Class airport with connecting flights to
Frankfurt. 4 x daily to Berlin on workdays. Excellent motorway
links to the north and south, and network connecting east and
west.World-renowned enterprises such as ABB, BASF, Roche,
Freudenberg, John Deere, DaimlerChrysler and Siemens as well as
medium-sized enterprises account for an annual turnover of
about 11.3 billion Euro and create an attractive market and an
exceptional business atmosphere in the region.
Culture
Birthplace of the "Mannheim School of Music"On the "Kulturmeile"
(= culture mile), a mile long thoroughfare which bisects the centre
of Mannheim, you will come across museums, galleries, colleges,
theatres and concert-halls. Among these are, for instance, the
National Theatre, the Reiss Museum, the State Museum for Technology
and Work and the Rosengarten concert-hall. These provide a focal
point for the whole Rhine-Neckar-region and beyond.
Sports

Leisure
Numerous leisure facilities, attractive residential areas,
well-kept municipal parks, the landscape between the Palatinate and
the Odenwald and, above all, the open -mindedness of the citizens
of Mannheim allows new arrivals to feel at home after a very short
period of time.
Education
Mannheim has a wide range of educational and training
institutions. The University of Mannheim, the Faculty for Clinical
Medicine at Mannheim Hospital, the State Academy of Music
Heidelberg-Mannheim, the Mannheim Institute for Higher Education
and another half a dozen renowned colleges and academies guarantee
a future-oriented education. All in all, about 24,000 young people
study in Mannheim. In 2002 Mannheim becomes the location of the
first pop academy, which opens for students in 2003 and moves into
a new building on Hafenstraße in 2004.
