“Shared ambition is critical” is the title of Swansea’s Community Strategy 2010-2014. Mannheim’s twin town has been working with strategic goals since 2004. Lord Mayor Dr. Peter Kurz and First Mayor Christian Specht took a delegation over to Swansea for a closer look.

Shai Agassi received the first Bertha-Carl-Benz Award of the city of Mannheim. “Shai Agassi has inspired us with his contribution to mobility and addressing the climate challenge and it is because of his efforts that we have awarded him this special gift,“ said Mayor Dr. Peter Kurz.

Mannheim is a city of many strengths, a great and resourceful city – a fact, however, mainly the people of Mannheim are aware of. This sentence sums up the study on “Cosmopolitanism on your Doorstep. A Study of the Spirit of Mannheim” by Prof. Martina Löw, sociologist at the TU Darmstadt university. The study was commissioned by Stadtmarketing Mannheim (the city’s marketing bureau), the Heinrich-Vetter-Stiftung foundation and Mannheim’s Büro 2020.

Mannheim has made it! The city has won its bet with Almaz and Karlheinz Böhm! On Monday, May 30, 10 days before the bet comes to an end, donations from the people of Mannheim reached exactly 109,616 Euro, hitting the 107,931 Euro mark needed to win the bet.

Public information event on adaptive reuse proves a success

Adaptive reuse - the redevelopment for alternative use of areas used by the military in Mannheim - is a topic of great interest for the city’s citizens. This was seen clearly at the first public information session, held on Thursday, April 7 in the N1 Stadthaus. Almost 300 Mannheim residents attended the meeting in order to learn about the opportunities and perspectives offered by the redevelopment sites, totaling 510 hectares.

200 architect’s offices entered their ideas into a competition to design a new Creative Industry Center in Jungbusch. Out of these, 25 were selected to map out their plans to convert what once was the “Yaman Building” into a contemporary, select and sophisticated business center for the creative industry. It was stipulated that the building should include a local art gallery and a leasable area of 4 600 m² and that the historic listed facade of the building – part of the “Kauffmannmühle” grounds – should be integrated into the design.
